STEP 2) Explore the Characters!

All roles are open to all gender identities, races, and body types.

• SHREK: A grumpy, reluctant ogre who eventually peels away his onion layers to reveal a big heart.

• DONKEY: A fast-talking, loyal sidekick with energy to spare and no filter.

• PRINCESS FIONA: A fierce princess with great expectations for her storybook ending.

• OGRE FIONA: Fiona’s nighttime form thanks to a witch’s curse, vulnerable and scared to be discovered for who she truly is. This role will be doubled with another character.

• TEEN FIONA: A jaded and sarcastic teenager who’s been waiting for her prince far too long. This role will be doubled with another character.

• YOUNG FIONA: A hopeful, innocent child dreaming of the day she’s rescued from her tower. This role will be doubled with another character.

• LORD FARQUAAD: A comedically-short tyrant with an inflated ego and a flair for the dramatic.

• CAPTAIN, THELONIUS & GUARDS: Farquaad’s henchmen, as intimidating as he is charming (i.e. not very).

• DRAGON: A soulfully powerful dragon guarding Fiona’s tower, intimidatingly flirtatious when she encounters Donkey. This role will be doubled with another character.

• FAIRYTALE CREATURES - Pinocchio, Gingy, Big Bad Wolf, Three Pigs, White Rabbit, Fairy Godmother, Ugly Duckling, Three Bears, Sugar Plum Fairy, Wicked Witch, Mad Hatter, Humpty-Dumpty, etc: A group of misfits banding together after exile, and finding strength in their differences. Some of these roles will be doubled with another character.

• CITIZENS OF DULOC: An unnervingly perfect and creepily happy population of Farquaad’s ideal kingdom.

• STORYTELLERS (Junior Cast Only): A trio of narrators who pop up throughout the production to help our story unfold.
